New table tennis club in Castlewellan

The history of Castlewellan and district as a table tennis force is well known. As founder members of the Lecale table tennis league in the late 50s when the town were triple league winners to the emergence of Carnacaville where many of next generation of local players contributed to further successes and finally Aughlisnafin who won a number of intermediate and senior title before its demise in the 80’s which ended Castlewellan association with the sport. But that’s all about to change with the formation of a new club in the town. The man behind the new initiative is John Huyton, one of the local table tennis leading players. The club is based at St Malachy's Parish Centre on Monday from 8-10pm. I am encouraged by the response I have received, said John and I'm confident that before too long we will see the town playing competitive table tennis again. We have practice bats to get you started and coaching is also available. To find out more, drop into the centre and enjoy the sport of table tennis.
